Summary:

In the spring of 1933, Shmuel Flakowitz arrived on the shores of the Land of Israel accompanied by his wife and two of his daughters. He settled in Tel Aviv and continued the production of lace curtains in his factory that remained in the city of Kalish, while establishing a similar factory in Bnei Brak. He started writing down his memories of his life in Poland before the outbreak of the World War , his secretaries typed what he dictated to them on the typewriter in his office at the factory. Two copies of the manuscript were found in the attic of his grandson, Yosef Komem, who had the privilege of knowing him in his lifetime. Flakowitz, born in 1881, managed various businesses in the fields of textiles. The publication of his memoirs, accompanied by the last thing written by his grandson, opens a window not only into the life full of upheavals of the Flakowitz family on a personal and business level, but also reveals the daily life of the middle-upper class of Polish Jews, a social stratum that usually disappears from the historical research of the period.

"באביב 1933 הגיע שמואל פלקוביץ' לחופי ארץ ישראל מלווה באשתו ושתיים מבנותיו. הוא השתקע בתל אביב והמשיך בייצור וילונות תחרה במפעלו שנשאר בעיר קאליש, תוך הקמה של מפעל דומה בבני ברק. את זיכרונותיו מחייו בפולין התחיל להעלות על הכתב לפני פרוץ מלחמת העולם - מזכירותיו הקלידו את מה שהכתיב להן על מכונת הכתיבה במשרדו במפעל. שני עותקים של כתב היד נמצאו בעליית הגג של נכדו, יוסף קומם, שזכה להכירו בחייו. פלקוביץ', יליד שנת 1881, ניהל עסקים ענפים בתחומי הטקסטיל. פרסום זיכרונותיו, בליווי סוף דבר שכתב נכדו, פותח צוהר לא רק לחיים מלאי התהפוכות של משפחת פלקוביץ' ברמה האישית והעסקית, אלא גם חושף את חיי היומיום של המעמד הבינוני־גבוה של יהודי פולין, שכבה חברתית שלרוב נעלמת מהמחקר ההיסטורי של התקופה."--back cover.
