Summary:
This is a manuscript of a lexicography of Judah ben Saul Ibn Tibbon's 13th century translation of Sa'adia ben Joseph's Amānāt wa-al-iʻtiqādāt to Hebrew, titled Emunot ṿe-deʻot (אמונות ודעות; title translated to English as the Book of Doctrines and Beliefs), containing Moritz Steinschneider's notes, translations, and cross references to Hebrew terms in Ibn Tibbon's text. Notes include underlining, crossthroughs, numbering, and sideways text, perhaps indicating that Steinschneider wrote this over a period of time. Franz Delitzsch authored an edition of Aaron ben Elijah of Nicomedia (14th century), Ets ḥayim (Leipzig, 1841) in which this manuscript was used (Malter; ibid., p. 13). Mostly written in a German cursive script (Kurrentschrift) and Hebrew charachters in a 19th century cursive script; paper thicknesses and grains vary; binding limp pasteboards, with contemporary shelfmark and title plate on front board. Probably written in Berlin, subsequently to UPenn CAJS Rar Ms 231 (written in Prague in 1840).
