Summary:
The doctoral thesis addresses the issue of the border between Mexico and the United States, specifically the one between the cities of El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, from the perspective of art, aesthetics, and imaginaries. The border is understood as a territory that is defined not only from geopolitical, military, strategic, and economic aspects, but also, simultaneously, from cultural practices and artistic and aesthetic processes that define the affective and sensitive relationships between those who inhabit it in a plane more of the order of the geopoetic. Thus, the thesis investigates how this border territorial space is also built from art and memory processes are produced that account for the historical aspects that defined and continue to define its conformation. Likewise, From the route traced by the theoretician Armando Silva, it investigates the imaginaries that artists, curators, researchers, urban planners of these two cities have on the border in aspects such as identity, emblematic characters, flavors, colors, among others, to give It tells, from an aesthetic and sensible perspective, the way in which these border citizens assume their condition of inhabiting an interstice. Art and imaginaries are worked on, as vectors of memory, from references such as the Rio Grande, the wall and the desert. the way in which these border citizens assume their condition of inhabiting an interstice.
