- Summary:
- When students and researchers seek to find results in business studies, they will often use statistical methods applied on large datasets. Since many such datasets are not readily available in the public, there is usually a need for the researcher or student to collect survey data from businesses and managers directly. However, collecting data oneself like that can result in many practical challenges. This case describes one such data collection, aimed at international small- and medium-sized enterprises in Finland. We collected the data in 2020 and learned from many practical challenges in the process. Readers will learn how difficulties and practical challenges can arise during cross-sectional survey data collection. More importantly, readers will learn how to both mitigate those challenges prior to data collection and, where encountered, solve the challenges, likely resulting in good quality datasets.
