Summary:
Simon Lapierre embarked on this doctoral study with the intention to 'give a voice' to women in order to develop a better understanding of the diversity and complexity of their experiences as mothers in the context of domestic violence. In accordance with a participative design, women who had experienced mothering in the context of domestic violence were involved from the early stages of the research process, as group interviews were conducted in order to initiate a critical discussion about the nature and modalities of the research. Women were then invited to share their experiences, through semi-structured individual interviews, and to comment on the research findings, through follow-up group interviews.
