- Summary:
- Memoirs of a Jew from Biała, who relates the fate of his own community, and those of Międzyrzec and Łomazy, in the Holocaust. Most of the Jews of Biała were deported in June 1942. In August Fajgenbaum's three sisters were killed; during the same month his wife and young daughter were killed in Międzyrzec, along with his wife's entire family. Fajgenbaum, his father, and his brother hid during the final roundup in September 1942, and then worked at nearby labor camps; his mother was deported and killed. He and his father escaped from a massacre in December 1942 and fled to the Międzyrzec ghetto, where his brother joined them. When the ghetto was liquidated in May 1943 and the remaining Jews were deported, Fajgenbaum jumped from the train and returned to Biała, where he hid in various places, wrote his memoirs, and was liberated in July 1944. Includes photographs and documents relating to the fate of the communities.
