- Summary:
- Spanish-Otomí dictionary written in the 17th century by an unknown Jesuit from the Tepotzotlán convent. In total, the dictionary has at least eleven thousand entries. It follows as a model the Castilian-Mexican vocabulary written by Fray Alonso de Molina in 1571. It is extremely detailed, distinguishing, for example, 6 types of palm, but the most important are the cultural terms, especially those referring to the pre-Hispanic religion, although there are also those about Catholicism. It represents the variant of the language spoken near Toluca, in the current state of Mexico, in particular Jiquipilco and Temoaya. It is a valuable source for the reconstruction of the pre-Hispanic culture and history of the Otomí-speaking Mesoamerican peoples.
