Summary:

Pt. 1 (pp. 23-31) relates the life of Abraham Saba, who was born in Spain in the second half of the 15th century. In 1492, he and his family left for Portugal. In 1497 the Jews of Portugal were forced to convert to Christianity, among them Saba's family. He and forty other Jews refused to convert; they were put in prison for six months and tortured, and then exiled to North Africa. Buaron discusses excerpts from Saba's Bible commentaries which relate to the events in Spain and Portugal.
