- Summary:
- Contains brief essays on the Jewish community of Zelva, Belarus, and its fate in the Holocaust, written by former residents. In 1921 there were 1,319 Jews in the town, comprising ca. two-thirds of the population. Zelva was part of Poland when the Germans invaded in 1939, and then came under Soviet rule until the German occupation in 1941. In November 1942 most of the Jews in Zelva were deported to Treblinka and killed. Pp. 32-79 contain testimonies of Jewish survivors, some of whom fought with partisan groups in the forests and some of whom survived in hiding. Pp. 80-154 contain brief memoirs, which also include Holocaust experiences. Pp. 169-172 present a list of Jewish residents who perished in the Holocaust.
