Summary:
Devotion to the martyrs and the material culture born from this phenomenon is a subject that is rarely addressed in historiography and social sciences. For this reason, this work presents a series of analyzes on the artifacts and cultural practices around this devotion in Mexico. The investigations that make up this book address the importance of images in Catholicism; the construction of hagiographic narratives in the various Christian denominations; the preservation and transformation of the martyrdom memory, as well as the -often abrupt- changes in the narratives that derive from these phenomena in the light of political and social events.
