- Summary:
- The magna exhibition presented by the Pinacoteca del Estado is a recognition of the importance and transcendence of the artistic production of three great exponents of 20th century Mexican plastic art that were born in the state of Nuevo Leon (Mexico). Alfredo Ramos Martínez (1871-1946), painter, muralist, watercolorist, educator and Operator of the Escuela de Pintura al Aire Libre Barbizon -in memory of the French naturalist school of the 19th century- in Santa Anita, Iztapalapa, this earned him the title of the Father of Modern Art. In Paris he cultivated friendship with the poet Rubén Darío, who points out: Ramos Martínez ±was a painter of melancholy, since he witnessed the beginning of the Mexican Revolution, and in his work he captured, among other topics, indigenismo and popular expressions. The sculptor from Monterrey, Fidias Elizondo (1891-1979), driven by his teacher Alfredo Ramos Martinez, traveled to Paris in 1913 on the Ipirangaʺ (the same ship that took Porfirio Diaz into exile in 1911). It was in Paris that his practice advanced. He is the author of the famous Cristo Rey on the hill of Cubilete, in Silao, Guanajuato, that according to Paloma Rives in a text about his work, is the largest bronze statue in the world with twenty meters high and a weight of eighty tons. Federico Cantú (1907-1989), painter, muralist, sculptor and engraver, one of the founders of the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana. He is the autor of the logo "La maternidadʺ of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS). The selection of works was made by Adolfo Cantú, curator of the exhibition, collector and grandson of the artist Federico Cantú; Gerardo Puertas, professor and collector, who contributed his knowledge, provided works, documents and wrote a text on Alfredo Ramos Martínez; and, the lawyer Fernando Rivadeneyra, prestigious historian and collector of the sculptor Fidias Elizondo, with whom his family maintained a close friendship. The exhibition was enriched with contributions from institutions, private collections, and, above all, with the works of these creators who are part of the Artistic Heritage of the state that houses the Pinacoteca de Nuevo León.
