Summary:
Atlas Western explores the gestural language of Western films and their migration into everyday life. Its starting point is Cine Pueblo, a film set that recreated the Old West on the outskirts of Tecate, Baja California. The fate of this set serves as a metaphor for the dynamics of the border between Mexico and the United States. In her practice, Chantal Peñalosa (Tecate, Mexico 1987) investigates the temporality and experience of living on the border, using repetition to speak to individual and collective memory. She forms part of a generation of artists from the north of the country whose discourses and interests depart from those of the artists of the center. This project forms part of the MUACœs interest in periodically reviewing the production of young artists, locally and internationally, with the goal of providing a platform for exploration for the new generations.
