Summary:
-- Summary from book.
The unusual sensitivity of Felisberto Hernández, his unpredictable turns, his sense of humor and his complex and labyrinthine ways of relating to the piano and writing are revealed in all their abundance and originality in these letters. It is no longer necessary to imagine his tours of towns in Uruguay and Argentina, giving concerts, or his picaresque confrontation with the world. Now he is seen in action, absorbed by the moment of an epistolary rite that returns him to a life of efforts, struggles and expectations, and, of course, also of love, friendships and illusions. This collected Correspondence (1917-1958) is made up substantially of the letters kept by Amalia Nieto, Paulina Medeiros, Juana Silva, Lorenzo Destoc and Jules Supervielle. Between the ends of a first postcard to his last writing records, a life passes, reflected in this extraordinary document that allows us to follow, in time, an artist who in a few years in the 1940s opened up an unknown world on the narrative maps of Latin America. -- Summary from book.
