Summary:
James Whitworth to his wife, HMS PORTIA, Sheerness 3rd October 1812. Prays that she is not worrying about him too much, and says he hopes that their poor treatment will stand them well in the court martial. Their voyage back from Gothenburg was in awful weather, carrying dispatches meant that they kept full sail throughout. He nearly fell from the main yard. Is still in irons, and lame, but in better spirits than he could hope. They are refitting so will be at Sheerness for some time. Doesn't expect any pay, due to the expense caused in his escape attempt.
