- Summary:
- James Whitworth to his wife, North Yarmouth, 2nd February 1812. Is hoping to hear that she is better, as his situation is not very good. No real interest in an exchange and a man of war is no better than he has got. With respect to his prize, he still does not know if she will be condemned, but she will bring him around £100, which would be useful. Mentions the great storm of 1812, and the loss of vessels near by. The officers and crew gave 2 days pay to the widows and orphans of the ST GEORGE, one of the vessels lost. Talks of the torment of having to keep watch night and day. He is larboard watch, and talks of the routine. She must make her lodgers pay rent weekly to avoid them running up debts to her. Says he has been away nearly two long years.
