Summary:
Reminiscences of Joseph Bartlett of Plymouth taken from memoranda in an old cyphering book, recounting his adventures at sea during the Revolution between 1778 and 1782. He recalls various voyages on privateers and other vessels, capture by numerous other privateers and subsequent imprisonment on prison ships, a journey in 1779 as part of the American naval fleet to the Penobscot River (Me.), an encounter with a British fleet there, and the American fleet's subsequent escape into the settlements of Maine.
