Summary:
Journal kept by Daniel Paine covering the years 1795-1798, written out again by him from his fair copy after 1807. The Journal covers Paine's return journey from Australia, through his shipwreck on the island of Luzon in the Philippines, and finally back to Deptford in 1798. There are also some appendices. The journal details a voyage to Port Jackson, New South Wales, where the author has a short residence in that colony. Paine then takes a northern passage to China, and then to the Philippines. The return passage home by the way of Batavia, and the Straits of Sunda (Indonesia) is also covered; interspersed with remarks, and observations in the years 1795-1798. This is a characteristic sea journal providing a daily account of weather, sailing information, directions, shipping information and a general account of running the ship.
