- Copies of legal instruments recorded by and before notaries public, principally Wiseman Clagett, who was a notary in Antigua and later a notary and justice of the peace in Portsmouth, N.H. The documents are protests relating mainly to damages to, or seizures of ships and their cargoes; indentures of apprenticeship; depositions; and other legal causes, mostly in Portsmouth. Also included is an undated copy of a letter from a committee of American ship captains and others to John Quincy Adams, U.S. minister to St. Petersburg, concerning the detention of their ships in Norway.
