Summary:
Two diaries of Samuel Adams Dorr, kept on trips to China and Europe. The first diary was kept on two trips to Guangzhou (Canton), China, first while serving as supercargo on the brig PILGRIM OF SALEM (Charles Pearson, master), 28 March-15 November 1809, and later while a passenger on the ship CANTON (John Haskell, master), 27 May-24 September 1818. Entries describe the weather; the ship's latitude, longitude, and distance travelled; sightings of animals and ships; and other details of the voyages. The second diary, kept on a trip to France and Switzerland, 1827, contains only a few short entries describing sights seen, as well as information on contacts in Europe.
