Summary:
Journal of a trip from Boston, Mass. to Rio de Janeiro and back on the bark PAULINA, kept by supercargo William Stevenson Curtis of Cambridge, Mass., 29 Sep. 1847-6 Mar. 1848. The PAULINA delivered ice and other goods to Rio and returned with rosewood, hides, coffee, etc. Entries describe Curtis's work onboard, including setting the sails, painting, and using navigational instruments; encounters with other ships and wildlife; and activities of the ship's master, Capt. Percival. The journal includes log information such as latitude, longitude, wind direction, course, and weather; drawings of the ship and other subjects; and a map of the route.
