Summary:
Diary of sailor Benjamin Bangs, kept in Eastham, Mass. from 1 January 1742 - 31 May 1749 and 16 July 1759 - 4 December 1765. Diary entries from June 1749 - 15 July 1759 have been lost. Entries describe Bangs' experiences as a fisherman, whaler, navigator, and business owner. Descriptions include voyages to various locales such as Cape Cod, North Carolina, and Louisbourg (N.S.) to catch fish and whales and deliver goods. Bangs also comments on his daily life including the health of family members, births and deaths in the community and the weather. Transcription available, see related documents.
