- Log of the schooner GENERAL COBB, kept by George S. Baldwin, 1842, while on a trading voyage from Newport, Rhode Island to the West Indies. Baldwin's journal was kept from 3 April 1838 - 8 October 1839 and 23 - 30 September 1842, with scattered entries for February 1840 and 4 August 1845. Entries for 1838-39 describe a whaling voyage on the bark CORNELIA from New Bedford, Mass., to New Holland, including tracking whales, news of the crew, weather, and notes on navigation. The 1842 entries record navigational information pertaining to a voyage on the schooner GENERAL COBB. Narrative log of the bark CORNELIA, George E. Netcher master, kept by boatsteerer George S. Baldwin from 3 April-7 October 1838 (with gaps), on a whaling voyage from New Bedford, Mass. to the South Pacific Ocean. Log entries record tracking whales, news of the crew, weather, and notes on navigation. The log ends abruptly while cruising the whaling grounds, but the ship arrived back in New Bedford on 9 July 1840. Included are drawings of whales caught and a crew list.
