Summary:
Log of the ship BROOKLINE, sailing from Salem, Mass. to Manila and back, 26 July 1839-1 July 1840, possibly kept by the ship's master Charles H. Allen. Included are notations of the course, winds, weather, etc., as well as work on the ship and sightings of other ships. The volume also contains miscellaneous memoranda by members of the Coffin family and sketches by Horace S. Perkins, 1858-1865. The volume was used as a scrapbook in the 1860s by Charlotte A. Coffin (later Perkins) of Salem, who pasted newspaper clippings to the recto pages. The clippings have been removed.
