- Summary:
- This is an illuminated ketubah (a Jewish marriage contract) on paper, written and signed in Yazd, Iran, 14 Teveṭ 5618 (Thursday, January 14, 1858); identified as Yazd, situated on basins and aqueducts, from which it is sustained ("במתא יזד יע"ה דעל מימי בורות ומעינות יתבא ומהם מסתפקא"); the groom was Avraham ben Aharon ha-kohen; the bride was Śarah bat Navod Shelomoh ha-kohen; three witness signatures. Written in thirty one lines (seven lines of introduction, twenty lines of ketubah text, four lines of postscript). Written in an Oriental square and semicursive script, possibly in two hands (ketubah text), with an Oriental square script in the introductory lines; witness signatures and postscript in an Oriental cursive script. Item illuminated: two oxen eat a thistle below vines; frame decorated with shoots and floret buds in reds and greens.
