Summary:
"The Journeys of Love" features three suites of compositions (the first three pieces on the program) on the theme of love from the Thai classical music repertoire. The first depicts the drama of courtship in traditional society, the second recounts the traditional authority of the king to marry citizens, and the third recounts the wedding itself. Traditionally, both of the Tap suites have been performed as music for weddings. The composition Ngieo Ramluek Thao is a modern instrumental composition based on an older composition that is expanded and compressed to make a set of three variations. I have brought these stories together to depict a story of the journey of love that will be theatrically enacted onstage by dancers using traditional gestures.
