Summary:

Featuring archival footage from key events in twentieth century history, this film documents the global aftermath of the two nuclear bombs exploded over Japan in 1945: American fear of communism with the explosion of the first Soviet nuclear device, the Korean War during which the US debated the use of nuclear weapons, the Cold War and the nuclear arms race. From the early 'Duck and Cover' campaign screened to naïve civilians, to the concept of MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) that kept the world from nuclear holocaust through the Cuba Crisis, the "Ban the Bomb" campaign in the UK and Star Wars of the Reagan era, the program finally brings us to the relief of perestroika, the fall of the Berlin Wall and disarmament talks. The program concludes by pointing out the current dangers of the emergence of new nuclear states, including Iran, and the opportunity for terrorist groups to acquire nuclear weapons.
