Summary:
This powerful documentary reveals the epidemic of sexual abuse of boys and its impact on both the individuals and their families. It highlights the importance of male survivors being healed and speaking out to end sexual abuse. The film features male survivors who are of diverse race, socio-economic status and sexual orientation. Whether it was shame, intimacy problems, post-traumatic stress, substance abuse or rage that led to violence, the effect of the trauma plagued their lives. Yet each man ultimately chose the arduous task of healing, reclaiming his life through counseling, support groups and taking action toward prevention for other boys. The men are candid about their memories of the abuse, the dark period in their lives that followed and the process of healing they have undergone. They are living proof that survivors have the ability to thrive and lead fulfilling lives. The film shows the dynamics of a male survivor support group. It will be a source of hope and inspiration. A companion film, The Healing Years: Women Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse, is also available from Filmakers Library.
