Summary:
This book, along with three other companion volumes (see GLC00267.308), is said to comprise the first popular history of the war from the Confederate view. Several portrait illustrations throughout. Pull-out map of the Battle of Fredericksburg is between pages 192 and 193. Looks at the war from the fall of New Orleans to Lee's retreat from Gettysburg. The book contains anti-Davis feeling throughout and is steeped in anti-Northern prejudice. Torn piece of envelope inserted in the inside front cover. It has a postmark of 28 May 1919 from Jersey City, New Jersey and a cancelled 3 cent stamp.
