Summary:
A proper cash level facilitates value-enhancing investments and shields firms against financial distress. The book discusses how managers should use risk management and payouts, including dividends, stock repurchases, and debt payout, to attain a proper cash level. It does so by (i) establishing a strong theoretical foundation for the role of cash, (ii) deliberating practical considerations of risk management and payout policy, and (iii) demonstrating applied tools that assist managers in making good decisions. Monte Carlo simulations of future cash holdings are introduced early and serve as a common thread throughout the book. Illustrations are used heavily to explain concepts and help the reader retain the material.
