- הספר טקס, טקסט והמאבק על הזהות ממשיך ומשלים את ספרו הקודם של המחבר: עם, מולדת וספר, על הטקסטואליזציה של העם היהודי, שהתמודד עם שאלת היחס בין היסודות המכוננים את הקיום היהודי: היסוד הרוחני - הטקסט מצד אחד, והיסוד הריאלי - העם והמולדת, מצד אחר. הניתוח שהוצע בספר עם, מולדת וספר מתמודד עם העמדה, שלפיה גם המולדת והעם הם מושגים המסמנים מסומנים רוחניים: העם מכוּנן על ידי מערכת הערכים, והמולדת היא מכלול הטקסטים המכוננים את הקיום היהודי. הספר הצביע על המאבק המתמשך בין מגמת הרחנת העם והמולדת לבין השבתם לקיום הריאלי. בספר שלפנינו, המודחק הריאלי שב אל קדמת הבימה. טענת היסוד של הספר היא כי טקסים וטקסטים מכוּננים על ידי קהילות יהודית ממשיות, ולא על ידי רוחות רפאים. הטקס והטקסט הם מרחבי מאבק על הקיום היהודי. אבל, מאבק זה מתחולל בלב הקיום היהודי הממשי על ידי בני אדם ממשים, שהם בשר ודם, ולא על ידי רוחות רפאים החיים בתוך טקסטים או בספריות. טענות יסוד אלה באות לידי ביטוי בניתוח מפורט, העוסק במשמעותם של טקסים, כטקסטים הנשזרים על ידי בני אדם. - Back cover.
