- The book Clandestine Immigration from Italy 1945-1948: Immigration, Diplomacy and Human Rights focuses on the dramatic struggle of the Mossad for clandestine immigration to send ships from the Italian shores to British Mandate Palestine. It presents the diplomatic negotiations and conflicts between Britain and Italy together with the human story of the immigrants and the Mossad and Palyam emissaries. The book focuses on a central issue of foreign policy: the probability of combining strategic and political interests with human rights considerations. It examines the positions of Britain, the United States, Italy and the Zionist leaders concerning the clandestine immigration. The book present the problem of European refugees during the 1920s and the1930s and of the Jewish refugees following the end of the Second World War. The persecution of Jews in Mussolini's Italy and the Italian efforts to save Jews during the German occupation. By the end of the war Italy's aim to restore her standing and influence in the Mediterranean was in conflict with British interests. Special relations were formed by the Italian senior government officials and the leaders of the Mossad in Italy Yehuda Arazi and Ada Sereni. The most significant event that manifested it was the well-known La Spezia affair in 1946.
- ספר זה מבקש לבחון את אחד האירועים הדרמטיים והמשפיעים במאבק לעצמאות ישראל - עלייה ב' מאירופה בשנים 1945-1948 מנקודת המבט של שאלה מרכזית במדיניות חוץ: האם ניתן ליישב בין אינטרסים אסטרטגיים, כלכליים ופוליטיים לבין מדיניות המעודדת ומקדמת את זכויות האדם? באיזו מידה תכנית כזו היא אכן חלק משיקולי המנהיגים, או שהיא יעד להצהרות חגיגיות בלבד? בחרנו להציג כאן את המאבק הדרמטי של המוסד לעלייה ב' על ההעפלה מאיטליה לחופי ארץ ישראל, ; מאבק שהתאפיין בלחצים פוליטיים כבדים של מעצמה כבריטניה מול הסכמה חשאית בין הממשלה האיטלקית בצעדיה הראשונים לאחר המלחמה ובין ראשי המוסד באיטליה יהודה ארזי ועדה סרני. ההבנה היתה כי הפליטים היהודיים, ניצולי השואה, שהסתננו לאיטליה בסיוע הבריחה ימשיכו ויפליגו משם אל ארץ ישראל. בתקופה זו זכתה ההעפלה לתשומת לב בין לאומית דיפלומטית ותקשורתית כאחד, והיתה לה השפעה מסוימת על שיקוליהן של המדינות. נסקור את הנושא מארבעה היבטים שונים : בריטי, אמריקאי, איטלקי וציוני. ; כיבוד זכויות האדם של המעפילים יידון בתוך שרשרת הניגודים והסתירות בין אינטרסים אסטרטגיים מופשטים לאנשים בשר ודם אשר גורלם מוכרע במסדרונות הדיפלומטיים מתוך שיקולי כוח ויוקרה. המעפילים לקח וכמובן חלק פעיל במאבק, נבחן כיצד התמודדו מול האתגר של קבל תאחריות מחודשת לגורלם ורצונם לשקם את חייהם לאחר מוראות השואה -- (מהכריכה האחורית).
