- Summary:
- Leonor Antunes (Lisboa, 1972, lives and works in Berlin) latest exhibition is a network of influences of 20th-century art and design female creators and that are often a source of inspiration for the artist. The vast range of materials she uses -jute, bamboo, brass, nylon, pineapple leather, straw silk, cotton, glass- presented in various knots, weaves, textiles, and forms of joinery suspended around two primary structures are the invocation of these late artists tied together by Antunes's own signature aesthetic. For this exhibition, Antunes surveys the life and work of Léna Meyer-Bergner during her residency in Mexico from 1939 to 1947 and weaves relationships between Meyer-Bergner and other creators that generated new discourses focused on design, production techniques and how objects respond to their social and political context.
