This book is the outcome of a collective work that began in the Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism of the Universidade de São Paulo, where six of the seven authors developed their masters, doctorates or post-doctorates, which I had the enormous pleasure of guiding.ʺ (HKB Translation) Page [7]. The period from 1930 to 1979 is revealed as a period of construction of institutions that turned to the production of urban and territorial knowledge and urban practices, in line with the processes of accelerated urbanization and deepening of regional inequalities. In this construction, several generations of urban planners, from different disciplinary fields and different perspectives on the ongoing processes in Brazil were involved. Through seven texts, different formats of institutions are unveiled, their specificities of action, the agents involved, the clashes, the relations between technique and politics, and the ways in which they remained, became, and participated in the conception of public policies.
