Summary:

Typology is a way of approaching knowledge that has a wide range of applications in different areas, thanks to the freedom it promotes in the management of information and its functional versatility. However, although architecture has a history of secular use as a resource for project support and for the characterization of pre-existing works, in recent decades it has been losing strength as the digital systematization of information and the oblivion of history and traditions as sources of learning advance. This text seeks to support the recovery of the epistemological bases of this methodology to promote its impact on design decision-making processes both in the academic field and in professional performance. The generation of architectural knowledge requires the enhancement of inclusive visions that solve problems for future generations based on the experiences tested at different times in history, but without pretending to copy them verbatim, but adapting them to the changing conditions of reality.
