Summary:
A collection about the 2020 Pennsylvania primary and general elections, the January 6, 2021 assault on the Capitol and its aftermath--initially compiled by HSP's library director, Dr. Lee Arnold, and supplemented primarily by HSP's conservator Tara O'Brien (with additions from other HSP staff). The 2020 elections happened in the shadow of both the COVID-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement. As part of an effort to allow voters to vote (safely), during the pandemic, the Democratic administration in Harrisburg allowed any registered Pennsylvania voter to request a mail-in ballot. The Republican-held General Assembly differed. After the election, some national and state Republicans claimed the votes from Pennsylvania (the Commonwealth had voted for Joe Biden) were invalid, fraud, rigged, etc. None of those charges were substantiated--nor did they hold up in any court. Even so, "election denial" persisted throughout 2021 and 2022.
