Die Denunziantin ist der erste und bislang unveröffentlichte Roman von Brigitte Reimann. Als sie ihn im Herbst 1952 beginnt, ist sie gerade neunzehn Jahre alt. Im Mittelpunkt des Jugendromans steht eine kompromisslos ihren sozialistischen Überzeugungen folgende Abiturientin, die in vielerlei Hinsicht nach dem Bild der Autorin modelliert ist. Reimann geht es darum zu zeigen, wie bedroht die damals noch im Entstehen begriffene sozialistische DDR­Gesellschaft ist und wie entschlossen darum allen destabilisierenden Kräften entgegengetreten werden muss. Die Lektoren verschiedener DDR­Verlage forderten von Brigitte Reimann immer neue Überarbeitungen des Textes, bis die Autorin nach sechs Jahren und vier Fassungen resignierte und von der Veröffentlichung des Romans Abstand nahm. Als entschlossenes Plädoyer für die Verteidigung des sozialistischen Aufbaus in der jungen DDR bildet Die Denunziantin den extremen Gegenpol zu Reimanns letztem Buch Franziska Linkerhand, in dem sie - 20 Jahre später - ihrem zunehmenden Zweifel am Gelingen des sozialistischen Wegs der DDR überzeugend Ausdruck verleiht.

The Denunziantin is the first and previously unpublished novel by Brigitte Reimann. When she begins it in the fall of 1952, she is just nineteen years old. At the center of the young adult novel is a high school graduate who uncompromisingly follows her socialist convictions, who is modeled after the author in many ways. Reimann is concerned with showing how threatened the socialist GDR society, which was still being formed at the time, is and how decisively all destabilizing forces must be countered. The editors of various GDR publishers kept asking Brigitte Reimann to revise the text, until the author gave up after six years and four versions and refrained from publishing the novel. As a resolute plea for the defense of socialist construction in the young GDR, Die Denunziantin forms the extreme counterpoint to Reimann's last book Franziska Linkerhand, in which - 20 years later - she convincingly expresses her increasing doubts about the success of the socialist path in the GDR.
