本书是关于北京城郊村京村村民生计选择,社会行动与村落生活的民俗志研究.所描绘的主要是近十几年来京村的日常生活和村民的生计选择,并分析内在和外在于村落社会的各种力量及其运作过程.与其他关注城镇化过程中城郊村和城中村的著述不同,本书着重强调了村落中生活主体的互动,其中既包含本村原有村民与外来流动人口的互动,又包含不同身份的村民与国家之间的互动.正是村民,村落,社会,国家等多重复杂的互动关系,共同塑造了城郊村村落的社会结构与社会秩序.本书认为正是这些力量创造和维系了我们今天所看到的相对稳定的社会结构.在这种相对稳定的社会结构里,当地人和流动人口在这里生生不息,经久不衰.因此,本书主要立足以下两点进行讨论:一是注重城郊村内部结构和社会秩序的自洽性逻辑,不仅仅将其简单地预设为需要"改造"的对象,而是将其视为需要被我们认识和理解的主体,也即"何以在"的问题;二是强调村落日常生活本身的学术价值,将其作为民俗志文本的写作主体,并分析在面对外部社会环境变化时,城郊村社会结构与社会秩序如何在日常生活中得以重构,也即"因何在"的问题.
