- Summary:
- Images illustrate education in Philadelphia schools. Contains architectural renderings and exterior views of several schools, particularly secondary schools. Many photographs document the first and last day of school as well as depictions of students en route to school. There are also interior views that show overcrowding. Includes scenes of children at the blackboard, with their teachers, in the schoolyard, and at lunch. Depicts special classes in foreign languages, telegraphy, and aviation. Contains views of football, biking, rallies, clubs, and charitable services. Includes graduation scenes. Portrays boys working as stevedores and in other jobs to compensate for the manpower shortage. Oversize shows mothers of children from the Ethan Allen Public School, blocking traffic to protest removal of policemen from crosswalk.
