Summary:
Portrays national defense vocational training sponsored by the WPA, and taught in Philadelphia schools. Highlights classes in shop, shipbuilding, and aeronautics. Many classes were held at the Mastbaum School and the Bok Vocational School. Shows students in blueprint class, and operating lathes. Portrays lunch hour. Contains several images related to the Murrell Dobbins Vocational School at 22nd and Lehigh Streets. Highlights the machine shop, basketball, the faculty, child care, and other activities as well as exterior views of the building. Shows war production training classes held at Fleisher Vocational School. Shows instruction in ceramics and woodworking at the Hershey Industrial High School as well as basketball practice and an architectural drawing of the building. Contains reproductions of elevation drawings of Philadelphia Vocational School, and an exterior view of Southern Manual Training School. Portrays women learning riveting at a vocational school in St. Louis. Includes view of students learning physics and drafting in special classrooms at the Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute.
