Summary:
Contains portraits of draftees in Pennsylvania as they are inducted into military service. Depicts draft registration, draft cards, medical examinations, fingerprinting, receiving uniforms, swearing in, and goodbyes with loved ones before departure (most Philadelphians pictured as they travel to Fort Meade). Depicts administrative offices of the Selective Service Administration and registration supplies and paperwork. Portrays draftees from all walks of life including the handicapped, vagrants, and representatives of various ethnic groups. Also includes scenes from parade on Broad and Morris streets in Philadelphia.
These subject entries for the Philadelphia Record newspaper's photo morgue are primarily for Places (buildings, parks, streets, etc.), Things (Bicycles, Bison, Blind Persons [just sampling the B's]), Events (Democratic National Convention 1936, Flourtown Fair, Harvest Week) and Social Constructs (Home Economics, City Planning, Eating & Drinking, etc.).
