- Summary:
- "In Trinidad and Tobago, there is a group of Indian filmi music lovers called the MIKE MEN. They are enthusiastic, dedicated roving public address system owners who operate sound systems perched on the hood of a motor car. Each sound system consists of a pair of large funnel-type horns strapped onto the hood of a vehicle, a turn table and 78 RPM records. These men functioned largely at East Indian weddings, cooking nights and other assemblies. These systems, which are still popular today, are used to lead wedding processions and to make announcements of various kinds including deaths, upcoming events, sales and emergencies. This book details the history of this group of cultural icons in Trinidad and Tobago."--Page 4 of cover.
