- Summary:
- Scrapbook of clippings, engravings (European city views and landscapes, Biblical scenes, royal portraits, sea scenes), natural history plates (especially turtles and botanical illustrations), and original cartoons, drawings, and paintings in watercolor, ink, charcoal, and pencil, by J. Solis Cohen and others. Likely compiled prior to the Civil War; dated items range from an 1852 clipping to an engraving dated 1861, with no references to the war. A cartoon with the date 1874 laid into the scrapbook is likely a later addition. Impressions from items on facing pages that do not match suggest that the leaves are not in original order. The scrapbook is heavy and in fragile condition, with both covers and most leaves detached.
- Notes:
- One of the loose items, a charcoal landscape that is larger than the scrapbook (44 x 30 cm), is now housed in a separate folder with the scrapbook.
