Summary:

This collection primarily focuses upon the political and economic changes which occurred across South East Asia between 1967 and 1980, with the majority of material dating from the 1970s. In the Philippines, content is dominated by the regime of President Marcos; in Indonesia by Suharto's "New Order" administration after his takeover from President Sukarno, and the subsequent economic growth in the country; in Malaysia by the New Economic Policy of Tun Abdul Razak; and in Singapore by foreign direct investment and a drive for industrialisation, all of which are set against the backdrop of the Cold War. The collection also covers diplomatic/political relations between the different nations and the UK, and Britain's relations with leading personalities in each country.
