AMDigital Reference:Lt 119
Written in a single autograph hand. Signed by 'Mary Capell' on the first folio. The volume is foliated almost throughout in the same hand as the main text. Mary Capell (died 1782) was the daughter of William, third Earl of Essex (died 1743), and in 1758 married John Forbes (1714-1796), Admiral of the Blue; this anthology therefore probably predates 1758. Letters by her to Dr Thomas Birch held in the British Library confirm her interest in literature and also her handwriting in this volume
Local Notes:
Bound in contemporary calf, but with the spine broken, gatherings loose, worn, and with light spotting or dust-staining. Poetical miscellany in a single hand, with an index, c. 1,740-51.
