John N. McJilton and T.S. Arthur were editors of this monthly literary magazine, which featured steel or wood engravings and music in each issue, and published sentimental tales and poetry. Arthur, William H. Carpenter, Park Benjamin, Anna H. Dorsey, and Mrs. Lydia Jane Pierson were leading contributors, though much of the material was selected. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
