Summary:
The magnificent discovery of the context of the Lady of Cao consists of the burial of at least seven individuals distributed in five tombs, the main character being that enigmatic lady, turned today into an icon of Peruvian archaeology. As a result of this archaeological find - occurred in 2004 at the Archaeological Complex El Brujo - many things changed in archaeology and Peruvian society. This monograph of testimonial archaeology gives an account, for the first time at the institutional level, of the investigations of past years around the aforementioned context. The book contains the full report of research on this important archaeological funerary context. The work compiles the contributions of 21 researchers, who, from their various specialties, have addressed over the last 17 years, the scientific study of the aforementioned archaeological context and that of its best-known character. In 13 chapters, the work gives an account of the excavation works of the funerary context, as well as the process of unwrapping the mummies, bioanthropological studies, the study of tattoos and metal artifacts of the trousseau of the Lady of Cao, among other unpublished contents.
