Professor Nancy Unger discusses sources for studying the Gilded Age and the nineteenth century. This video will focus on the value of studying the nineteenth century and its importance to understanding the present, her process for choosing research topics and finding sources, then the challenges of archival research. Professor Unger shares interesting findings of marginalised voices in the archive and the different types of sources that emerged during the nineteenth century, such as typescript, photographs and film. Additionally, Professor Unger discusses her research in topics such as women's suffrage and racism, and offers tips for first-time archival researchers.
