- In this video interview, Professor Pheroze Unwalla discusses the myriad opportunities and difficulties that arise when conducting research in the interdisciplinary field of Middle East Studies and the subfield of modern Middle Eastern history. He recommends students critically contemplate certain questions prior to commencing their research to better understand how their biases and preconceptions of the region might impact their research questions and agendas. Subsequently, ruminating on both logistics and ethics, he details the challenges of conducting research in this frequently fraught field of study. Finally, Professor Unwalla make several recommendations on where students can begin their research, the obstacles they may face, and how they might be overcome.
