Description: Humphrey K. B. Nevinson (1891-1915) was 2nd Lieutenant, 1/10th Battalion, Manchester Regiment, 42nd (East Lancs) Division. Born at Oakham, Rutland, son of the Reverend Thomas Kaye Nevinson and Ethel Mary Nevinson of Medbourne Rectory, nr Uppingham. Educated at Oakham School, worked as a brewer in Stamford, Wrexham and Oldham. In March 1915, he enlisted in the Manchester Regiment as a Territorial and was granted a commission as 2nd Lieutenant, 1/10th Battalion, Manchester Regiment. Sent to Egypt in Sep 1914, serving there until May 1915 and including service at the Suez Canal. Landed at Helles, Gallipoli, 9 May 1915, was wounded 4 June 1915 and died of those wounds 5 Jun 1915 on board HM Hospital Ship Somali, aged 24 years. Buried at sea, no known grave. Commemorated Helles Memorial.Letters from Jan 1915-June 1915, written to family; also photographs and newscuttings: H Nevinson and Gallipoli.
