- Summary:
- When Mrs McGillicuddy witnesses a murder on a passing train, the absence of a body leads no one to believe her. Miss Marple, however, knows her friend better. Her enquiries lead her to Rutherford Hall, a large country estate near the railway line and the home of Luther Crackenthorpe. Her investigation leads to yet more intrigue and death before all the secrets are revealed and the murderer is unmasked. Mrs McGillicuddy is onboard the 4.50 from Paddington when her train draws to a halt and another draws up alongside it. In the carriage opposite, the window blind suddenly snaps up, revealing a tall, dark man strangling a woman to death. Mrs McGillicuddy loses no time in telling her story, but no one believes her. Except Miss Marple.
